An Application We Normally Don’t think about with Christ dying on the Cross

Christ dying on the Cross for our sins has many implications for the Christian life.  But there’s one that might not be emphasized enough and it’s important for the persecuted church to hear it.

Romans 5:9 stood out to me: “Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him

This verse here teaches that we are justify before God because of Christ’s death which offered His blood as sacrifice.  Justified means God declaring believers Legally righteous in God’s eyes. This is not done because we are deserving but because God is gracious.  Of course Christ’s death on the cross is what justify us.

The second half of the verse shows us the result of being justified by the blood of Christ: “we shall be saved from the wrath of God.”  Amazing.  Incredible.  By faith in Jesus as the Messiah we will be saved from God’s wrath to come.

Don’t miss the implication of this passage.  We are spared by Christ’s death the wrath of God that He has in store for sinners.  This fate is deserved by all.

For those persecuted for their faith around the world, if you are reading this, please know the Church in the West has not totally forgotten about you.  Some of us pray for you.  And pray regularly for you!

Yet in the midst of persecution this is a thought to consider: God does not treat humanity’s sin lightly.  That’s why Christ died on the Cross.  Yet if God the Father execute justice willingly with His Son how much more so will He execute justice against those who oppose God and persecute His church and saints (believers)?

Suddenly that thought changes everything.  One day the persecution of believers will end…and one day God will punish those who persecute and harm believers if they haven’t repented and surrendered to God.  As certain as Christianity states Christ died for our sins and alive for His people too, the judgement of God against those who hurt His people will also be certain.
