Forgiveness Follows Repentance

 BY DEBRAPEDROW

“If you have repented-which means you have experienced godly sorrow and a subsequent detour from the sin – bathe yourself in the river of God’s forgiveness.” Beth Moore, Jesus: 90 Days with the One and Only

Some wonder if true forgiveness follows repentance. This thought might occur because one feels the sin they committed is too egregious, or the sin went on too long, or perhaps one feels unworthy of true forgiveness.

However, in God’s eye sin is sin, none more dreadful than the next, even blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is unbelief. Unbelief is rejection of the Holy Spirit, Jesus, God. To reject the Holy Spirit is to reject forgiveness, it’s a personal choice.

But if one believes in the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, God, then forgiveness follows repentance. Then comes His grace, mercy, redemption, because of our personal choice.

Forgiveness follows repentance of sin, given through Jesus, received by all who believe. After repentance, feel free to, “bathe yourself in the river of God’s forgiveness.” God’s forgiveness removes our connection to the sin. We become free.

Every sin can be forgiven as long as one is alive to accept the forgiveness. After death, it’s too late for forgiveness. There is no second chance for redemption after death. The choice to repent and receive God’s forgiveness only comes during life on earth. If you breath that last breath without acknowledging Jesus as the only way for salvation-you claim no sin or offer no repentance for sin-it’s too late.

Forgiveness follows repentance while we live on earth.

1 JOHN 1:8-9 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Praise God for His faithfulness to forgive sin!

“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen.”
