Kirk Cameron’s new adoption film “Lifemark” has been a huge success at the box office, coming in at No. 2 and prompting producers to expand showings in theaters across the country.
The Daily Wire reports Cameron, who stars in the film, celebrated audiences’ overwhelming reception over the weekend on social media.
“Have you heard the good news about Lifemark?” Cameron wrote on Facebook. “1,100 theaters asked to keep it for one more week. We said, ‘YES!’”
The Christian actor thanked audiences for supporting the film, noting how it came in No. 2 at the box office and has a 97-percent audience approval on the film website Rotten Tomatoes.
Cameron said audiences have described the film as “deeply moving,” “heart-warming” and “inspiring.”
“Lifemark” opened in theaters Sept. 9 on limited release, but the film has been doing so well that showings have been extended through Sept. 22, according to Crosswalk.

Starring Cameron and produced by the Kendrick Brothers (“War Room,” “Fireproof”), the movie celebrates the life-giving choice of adoption through the true story of Louisiana native David Scotton. Adopted as an infant, Scotton grows up in a loving home. At age 18 and about to graduate high school, he unexpectedly receives a message from his birth mother, asking to meet him.
With the encouragement of his adoptive parents, the young man embarks on a journey that reveals the truth about his past, including his mother’s choice as a scared young teenager. The film is based on a true story, as told in the documentary “I Lived on Parker Avenue,” produced by Louisiana Right to Life.
Here’s more from the Daily Wire:
Cameron explained that the movie was “actually picking up momentum” because people are going out there and seeing it. [H]e also gave thanks to all those who have supported the film that “celebrates and champions the preciousness of life and the beauty of adoption.” …
“You know sometimes the audience loves it and critics pan the movie, they hate it, they trash it,” he added. “But fortunately, for whatever reason, all the reviews are positive.”
To-date, the film has earned $4.3 million worldwide, according to BoxOfficeMojo.
It is rated PG-13 for thematic elements. The creators said the rating is based on a scene when a woman makes a decision inside an abortion facility, but “nothing shown or discussed is graphic.” Watch the trailer here.
